History of WUSO
WUSO 89.1 FM The Berg has had a long and glorious history here at Wittenberg University. From its humble beginnings, WUSO has always been and will always be ENTIRELY student-run, with elections for student Executive Positions every year. Our first broadcast was on February 20th, 1966, from our old station location in the basement of Hemma Hall. Now in our 41st year of operation, WUSO still prides itself in bringing new, independent music to Wittenberg and the surrounding Springfield community.
WUSO spent many wonderful years at its first location; however, in 1996, it moved to its current high-tech location in the basement of Firestine Hall. With 3 music production booths, a music library, a technician's office, an executive office, and its own bathroom, WUSO is one of the largest non-academic locations on campus!
In late 2005, WUSO installed a new 120-watt transmittor to replace the old 10-watt transmittor. This increased WUSO's broadcast range by a whopping 128 times to a 15-mile radius!
The latest addition to the WUSO organization is its "Listen Live" feature. This has been a three-year project that was finally completed in September of 2006, increasing WUSO's range to the entire world! Now anyone can listen to WUSO at any time from any computer connected to the Internet!
In early 2007, a new webmaster took over WUSO.org to give WUSO a whole new online face! The website is now updated regularly with updates on the happenings of WUSO, news about the independent music industry, and more!
So please remember to keep your knob turned all the way to the left on 89.1, or just check out our Listen Live feature to listen to WUSO from your own computer!
Thanks for supporting WUSO, and don't forget to come back to WUSO.org every once in a while!
